haus OBSESSED: Five Materials We Can't Stop Thinking About

Some materials simply earn their place in a home. They age gracefully, feel good under hand and bring a sense of calm to a space. Here's what we're loving right now.
Limewash and textured plaster
Paint gives colour; limewash and plaster give depth. The subtle movement across a wall catches the light throughout the day and turns an ordinary room into something that feels handmade and grounded.
Fluted and reeded wood
Linear texture adds rhythm without adding clutter. We love it on kitchen islands, vanities and built-in cabinetry, where it softens large surfaces and invites a second look.
Natural stone
Travertine, quartzite, limestone and marble with a honed or satin rather than polished finish feel softer and more timeless. Every slab is different, and that variation is exactly the point.

Speaking of obsessed: we fell so hard for this quartzite that we bought the slabs before we'd even applied for permits. The project hasn't broken ground yet, but its stone is already waiting.
Unlacquered brass
It darkens, warms and develops a patina with every touch. Hardware and fixtures in living finishes tell the story of a home that's actually lived in.
Warm, natural timber
White oak, walnut and exposed beams bring warmth through the long Calgary winters. Wood connects a home to its landscape and balances cooler materials like stone and concrete.
What are you obsessed with right now? We're always collecting ideas, and we'd love to hear yours.
