Project no.6

FLOODED WITH NATURAL LIGHT. This house had the square footage to create a great space but needed a lot of work. The house had a large addition built while leaving the original layout, with tiny bedrooms, a small kitchen, closed dining room, a crowded living room and an additional living room (the addition). The stairs were located in an awkward location creating an interesting challenge to create an integrated design with a coherent flow from one space to the next.

The stairs were moved from the rear of the house to the front of the house in front of a large window. They were open riser with a glass partition, flooding the basement with natural light while maintaining a sound barrier between the two floors. The addition was opened up to the original footprint of the house and became the space for the living room and a highly efficient mudroom and laundry room. The original small kitchen, dinning room and living room were opened up and became a large spacious open dining room and kitchen great for entertaining with a clean and efficient work space. The bedrooms were reconfigured to incorporate a large ensuite and ample closet space.

With a complete reconfiguring of the layout the house was transformed from having small disjointed spaces to having a very functional space beautifully flooded with natural light.
